What is Relationship OCD?
In every type of OCD, intrusive thoughts attack what the individual cares about the most. OCD knows to hit the places where it hurts. In relationship OCD (ROCD), obsessions make their way to attack the relationships. Sometimes the person with OCD will have doubts about the relationship and at some other times, the person will doubt their partner’s physical, mental, personality, or behavioural characteristics.
The person suffering from ROCD always wants to make sure whether his partner loves him. They feel that they have to do everything so that they do not commit a mistake. There is always an urgency to figure out. The person then also tries to desperately tries to achieve certainty about the relationship even when it is not required.
Here are some obsessions of ROCD:
Am I being truly loved? Is this real love?
What if I am only giving my best to the relationship and my partner doesn’t care at all?
Should I make the first step towards break-up?
What if my partner and I are not fit for each other?
What if I find some other person attractive? And a lot more.
Even if you we see that the relationship is going well, the partner with OCD will have these symptoms and he or she will keep figuring out the wrongs in the relationship.
